2G/3G Network cut off – 2025

Telecom networks worldwide will be phasing out their 2G and 3G networks to make way for more advanced technologies. As a forward-thinking company, we have proactively anticipated this industry transition and have already shifted our focus towards LTE (4G) networks. The majority of our devices now operate on LTE technology, ensuring a seamless and enhanced communication experience.

While our modern devices are already optimized for LTE networks, we understand that some of our clients may still have legacy products in the field that rely on 2G or 3G connectivity. The last five years the majority of our systems sold is LTE devices and will not be affected. We want to assure you that we have plans in place to address this situation and minimize any disruption to your operations.

Original dates as per government gazette:
2G estimated cut-off date: 31 May 2024
3G estimated cut-off date: 31 December 2024

New cut-off dates:
2G estimated cut-off date: 1 June 2025
3G estimated cut-off date: 1 June 2025

Complete shutdown of both 2g and 3g will be 31 December 2027.

“The commencement for the shutdown of the 2G and 3G services is 1 June 2025. This deadline is meant to allow mobile network operators some level of discretion and for them to decide which network to switch off first,” the department told MyBroadband (https://mybroadband.co.za/news/cellular/524036-south-africa-announces-new-deadlines-for-switching-off-2g-and-3g.html).

We have not been notified by MTN as yet on their dates, whereby Vodacom has communicated to us that they are working towards the 1 June 2025 mark. None the less, we will continue with moving our complexes over from these legacy units to our latest units, so that security can remain the top priority.

Our products:

*Only MKII Lite systems with WP85 modems will be affected. You can view the modem type for your system on Comb Portal under the devices Tab.

*We are no longer repairing any of our units that work on the 2g networks. This unit is end-of-life, as it was last sold in 2023 and discontinued.

While these devices have served you well over the years, it is crucial to note that they will require upgrades within the next two years to ensure uninterrupted communication.
